The problem we want to solve According to the United Nations’ Report (Policy Brief: STEM education and inequality in Africa JULY, 2022), Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) are expected to play a significant role in the success of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda and the African ‘Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063. Both are very articulate about sustainable development being underpinned by science, technology, innovation and scientific research. Unfortunately, the same report pointed out the sad situation where between 2015-2020, only an average of 21.7 percent of students graduated in STEM.  In Togo, only 15% of students have access to quality STEM education, and even fewer have the resources to pursue careers in these fields. This lack of access perpetuates cycles of poverty and limits the potential for innovation and economic growth. Without intervention, thousands of bright young minds will remain untapped, and our nation will fall further behind in the global economy. The solution we propose Our STEM Academy Program provides hands-on learning experiences, cutting-edge technology, and mentorship opportunities to students aged 12–18. Through workshops, coding bootcamps, robotics labs, and partnerships with local industries, we inspire students to explore STEM fields and develop critical thinking, creativity, and technical skills. Our goal is to reach 500 students annually, with a focus on empowering girls and underserved communities. Our Success Stories Since its inception, EDULCOD-Togo has impacted over 500 students, with 70% of our participants reporting increased interest in STEM careers. Four of our alumni, went on to be selected for the Hong Kong University STEM Camp program and are now pursuing degrees in computer science and related options. These successes demonstrate the transformative power of our program and the potential for even greater impact with expanded resources.
